Summer Garden Skills Program (Beginner-Friendly)
Program Overview
Hands-on gardening program where participants grow vegetables from seed to harvest. Learn by doing while caring for shared garden beds and your own chosen plant.
- Choose your main plant: tomato or pepper
- Help care for shared beds (radishes, lettuce, and more)
- Grow bag and supplies provided
- Take home your harvest while building gardening skills and knowledge
Schedule
Tuesdays:
- May 19 – May 26 & September 1 – September 15 | 4:30–5:45 PM
- June 4 – August 25 | 8:30–9:45 AM
Note: Week of June 2nd will meet on June 4th (meets Thursday).
Cost: Total of 20 sessions
- $30 per participant
- Late registration fee: $40
- Cash or Check payable to Onamia Community Education
Fees must be paid no later than the first session (May 19) Without fee paid you cannot participate.

- Free participation (must have gardening knowledge and ability to assist others)
Additional Info
- Ages 14+ Adults may bring children but they must take care and responsibility of them during the entire time of the program. See Conduct Policy.
- Program capped at 20 participants, so sign up FAST!
- A waitlist will be created if the class fills up, with help of 2+ volunteers more can be added to the class.

UPDATE! Youth Summer Baseball & Tee Ball
Time to get ready for another season of Onamia Summer Baseball for our area youth!!
Tee Ball: Boys and Girls entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2026 through age 8.
*Boys and Girls age 8 may also play on the 9U baseball team.
Baseball: Both Boys and Girls can sign up for Baseball. There will be separate teams for
students currently in grades:
9U = 2nd and 3rd Graders, (Games will typically be Mondays & Wednesdays)
THERE IS NO 11U TEAM DUE TO LOW NUMBERS FOR THIS AGE GROUP.
11/13U = 6th and 7th Graders, (Games will typically be Mondays & Wednesdays)
16U = 8th, 9th & 10th Graders, (Games will be on typically be Tuesdays & Thursdays)
* Some games could occasionally be scheduled outside of the typical scheduled days

16U (Mille Lacs Team) Coach: Jeff Nelson & Owen Sargent (assist)

13U (mixed team of 11U players and 13U) Coach: Chad Calander & Jake Nohner (assist)
Practice Sunday evenings from 6-8pm tentatively starting Sunday 5/3 on the junior high field behind the high school. All practices and home games will be on this field.
9U Coach: Joe Ehrmantrout
Practice Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 - 7:30pm tentatively starting 5/4 on the Soo Line Field across from the Onamia Fitness Center. All practices and home games will be on this field.
Tee-Ball Coach: Robert Oswaldson III
Tee-Ball will begin towards the end of the school year. Coach R. will reach out to families via text for practices. Equipment needed is tennis shoes & personal gloves.
To keep the program affordable to all, we are going to need parents and community members to volunteer time to ump, maintain the fields or be a part of the summer baseball board.
Funding for equipment, league fees, ump fees, etc. will be raised through registration fees and
fundraising. Volunteer coaches will need to have a background check on file at the school. The
school will cover the costs of the background checks.
